A group of 5 independant CS members from all parts of the world, you know who you are, lead by Marcus Eder and me, Mike Giddens have been able to record cache records on a large scale level and process that information into visible and usable data for the Couch Surfing 2 project. It is currently undecided from the CS administration if they want to use our independantly collected data but either way this is a way for members to easily find some of their profiles.
What we did:
The day after the crashed we set up a script that ran for 3 days searching google with different user id's and search terms. What we collected were 2gigs, 60k records of html pages, each different and each containing a little bit of info about the CS website. We then analyzed that data thanks to 2 great programmers that parsed the html page into solid usable data that can be used by the CS 2.0 website. The end result after that process ran for 8 hours was 13,514 profiles restored in a user friendly database on CS-Phoenix.
Last of all I would like to quote CS for their statement that rebuilding the community together is the best way to handle things and if you Casey want the data just ask. This is way the team has stayed up the last 72 hours without anyone telling us to. To give back the only way we could.
